What you will need?
If you want to stream videos from VLC to Chromecast, you need to have following things:
- Chromecast
- Windows or Mac running the latest version of VLC
- Smart TV
Stream videos from VLC to Chromecast?
Step 1: Connect Chromecast to your Smart TV.
(Note: Make sure that Chromecast has been set up correctly. Check out here to how to set up Chromecast). Also, make sure that both Chromecast and Windows PC or Mac are connected to the same network.
Step 2: Open VLC media player on your PC. Make sure that you are running VLC version 3.0 or above.
Step 3: Now open Playback -> Rendered -> Scan.
Step 4: Select the Chromecast device where you need to stream.
Step 5: Open a media file on VLC or drag & drop a video file from the file manager into the VLC media player.
Step 6: A pop-up window will be displayed on your PC notifying “Insecure Site.” On the pop-up Window, tap View Certificate.
Step 7: Tap Accept Permanently to agree with the Chromecast’s certificate.
Step 8: Now your Video will be played on the bigger screen of the TV. Common video formats will be streamed without any problems. But, while playing the video formats like WMV, you will be displayed with the message like this.
Step 9: Tap OK if you want to proceed with video.
(Note: You can also tap OK, Don’t warn me again if you want your VLC to convert the video file automatically while streaming. We recommend you not use this option on the laptop, as it will drain battery life quickly. Similarly, slower or older computers may not convert the video fastly, resulting in lag while streaming the video).
Stream Videos from VLC to Chromecast using Google Chrome?
The above-mentioned method will work perfectly. If you find the above method doesn’t work properly, you can use Google Chrome browser to stream the videos from VLC to Chromecast.
(Note: Make sure that your PC and Chromecast connected to the same network).
Step 1: Open your Google Chrome browser and tap the three-dot menu icon which located on the top left corner of the screen.
Step 2: Tap Cast option.
Step 3: Select the drop-down menu next to Cast to, then change the source from the Chrome Tab to Cast Desktop.
Step 4: You PC screen will be streamed on your TV. You can play your video file and enjoy streaming on the bigger screen of the TV.
